Camp NanoWriMo Day 9 and 10

Current Word Count: 12,524

So, I decided that Endgame, the novel I am working on for Camp Nano is going to be more ‘novella’ sized so I downed my goal to only 30k for the month. This has put me back on track for the month instead of being far behind with my 50k goal.

Stats1

I’m not going to stress over the word counts and goals too much. I am still going to try to get ahead of my goal and I still want to surpass 30k for the month but 30k is a good goal.

I also have another novella that I want to work on after this one. I might work on the other after I finish the first draft for Endgame.

But anywho, fixing to get on the road and head to a writing spot. Don’t know exactly where yet as it looks like it’s about to storm.

Goal For Today: 14,520! Let’s see if I can hit it!!!

Camp NanoWriMo Day 8

Current Word Count: 8,914

I didn’t get any writing done yesterday. I had good intentions but family issues pulled me away. Today, as soon as I post out this small blog post, I am going to sprint for 2 hours and see what I can come up with!

Tips-for-writing-a-novel

I hate that I haven’t written anything in almost a week but the small 66 words or so. But it’s okay. Tomorrow, when I get off work,

But, I won’t keep this post going longer. Gonna get a cup of tea and try to write this evening. Evening Goal: 2,000 words!!I am going to slink away to somewhere other than home and try to write as well.

Camp NanoWriMo Day 7

Current Word Count: 8914
Month’s Goal: 50,000
Today’s Goal: 14,516
Words Needed: 5,602

So I am currently behind on my goal for the month of July! Oh Boy!!!! I have written a sad 66 words since the 2nd. I started out super strong but alas, life has taken its toll again. A/C in my car went out. Had to put it in the shop. Dad went into the hospital day before yesterday.

#amwriting

Complications from a surgery he had in May. He’s good now. He’ll be getting out tomorrow some time!

Now I find out that a girl that works in my department at work is leaving and my store director is transferring stores. So work is a bit up in the air at the moment.

But I know there is no use worrying about things that are out of my control.

Today, when I get off work, gotta go help Mom get the camper packed up. Her and Dad were at the lake when he had to go back to the hospital.

Once the camper is done being packed up and such, I will be burning off to somewhere to write. Depending on the time we get finished, I might be going to Denny’s to eat and write for a few hours.

My goal for today is to get to 14,516. That means that I need a total of 5,602 words written today. I can do that. I wrote 6,206 words on Monday in just about 4.5 hours. So I can totally get the words I need for today to meet my goal!

I have got to get into the mind set of no matter what happens each day, I have to write. Even if I only sit down and write for just a 30 minute session, I have to write! I will be, going forward, making sure that if nothing else, I will write for at least 30 minutes each day!

Gonna shoot for #1k30min goals each day from now on!!

BEDS Day 13 – Real Life Situations

Blog Every Day in September – Real Life Situations

If you write in the fantasy or sci-fi genre, this might not be as relevant but in a novel or short story set in your everyday world, this can be quite relevant.Image result for traffic violation

Today on my way home, I started thinking about real life occurrences. Two things in particular came to mind.

  1. Traffic Tickets
  2. Visiting loved ones in the hospital

Some might think that these things are minuscule in the larger plot of their novel but if you think about it, situations like those happen in real life and they shouldn’t be overlooked in fiction either.

Sure it might be tricky to work in a traffic ticket but what if, for instance, your character is on the way to see a loved one in the hospital and then they’re detained by the cops?

Or in a high-stakes, intense novel, your character has a specific amount of time to complete a challenge, something as simple as a traffic ticket can definitely cause an issue and become a greater obstacle for the character.

Image result for hospitalAnother real life issue that comes to mind now is something tiny: stubbing one’s toe on the bed corner.

What if your character was trying to sneak out of the bedroom of a one night stand and they stubbed their toe and woke up the other person.

Small, everyday occurrences can add real life depth to a story.

Do you overlook these small details in your writing or do you embrace them as a great way to connect with your readers?

BEDS Day 8

What do you do when you don’t feel like writing?

For me, when I don’t feel like writing in one of my stories, I read or watch television with shows/movies in the same genre I am writing to help inspire me.

I also like to browse Pinterest and other similar sites for inspiration as well.

What are you ways of staying creative when you don’t want to write? Let me know down in the comments section below!

BEDS Day 7

Blog Every Day in September – Day 7

Where are some of your favorite places to write?

For me, I have my bed in a corner of my room and I like to put pillows in the corner, slide into the corner myself and write with a view of the room in all directions.

This might sound weird but growing up, my writing was looked down upon because it’s M/M romance and to some, that’s a controversial subject.

So I never liked someone having the ability to sneak up on me.

I do enjoy coffee shops and libraries as well because there are usually other people typing away. They might not be writing but they are clicking away and it’s nice to get into that flow with others around.

Where do you write? Let me know down in the comments section below.

PS On my next day off, I will upload some pics of my favorite spots.

BEDS Day 6

Outlining

What do you do to outline your novel or short story?

Do you create extremely detailed character sheets? Do you cut out pictures from magazines?

One thing I like to do is find blueprint websites for floor plans and such for my characters homes.

Another fun home inspiration tool would be to play The Sims.

For characters faces/appearance, I use Google or Bing images for inspiration.

For my own outlines, I have pantsed mostly up to the this point but this year I am going to be doing character sheets and detailed plot point outlines.

What are you outlining methods? Share your tips and tricks in the comments section below!

BEDS Day 5 – What Do You Hide Behind?

Blog Every Day in September – Day 5 – What Do You Hide Behind?

What do you hide behind to avoid facing your writing? For Michele Weldon, author of Writing to Save Your Life, her method of choice is pillow making.

In the above mentioned book, Michele states, “Pillows were my excuse for not facing myself and igniting my own power. I spent years with eyes closed, sewing up my truth in beautiful bundles that literally insulated and protected me… I explored my reasons for making those pillows and how they kept me busy and distracted from the truth I needed to tell myself, the truth I eventually found the courage to write down.”

Everyone has things that they use to distract from something they don’t want to do, for whatever the reason they don’t want to do it. Everyone’s reasons are most likely different for not wanting to do something.

Why do you hide away from something that you don’t want to do?

Why do you not want to do it?

Or do you want to do something with a passion and find yourself frozen when you set out to do what it is you wish to do?

Are you hiding from something that you really want to do? Why, if you really want to do something, would you hide from it?

Tell me your story down in the comments section below!

BEDS Day 4 – Coffee Corner

Blog Every Day in September – Day 4

Coffee Corner

Sometimes when I need to get away from my normal writing space of my bedroom and my desk, I take a trip to a local coffee shop.

Is it Starbucks? It sure is. There are a few lesser known locations that I have gone to but mostly I stick to Starbucks. I’ll find a spot in a corner and pull out my laptop and write while I sip my tea. Black tea, unsweetened with extra ice, if you’re wondering how I take my tea.

Sometimes I will go to the grocery store and spend a good amount of time in the tea and coffee section. My most recent find was a Pumpkin flavored coffee. Yes I am one of ‘those’ people! I love anything and everything pumpkin and/or pumpkin spice!

Fall is one of my favorite times of year for coffee and tea. Apple spiced teas are wonderful as well. Apple cider too.

I could go on and on for hours about my love of seasonal teas and coffees.

What are you favorite teas and coffees? Do you have a favorite coffee shop you frequent?
