I’ve been writing since I was a teenager, probably 13/14. I started by writing really bad Star Trek fan fiction. Looking back on it now, I see that it was extremely, horribly bad. I can see how my writing is so much better now than it was then. That’s not to say that it’s perfect by any means but I find that writing is a great way to escape.
Fan fiction was what I started writing and then I came across slash fiction based on Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, pairing Angel and Xander and I was hooked. Being a closeted gay man, I find the slash pairings a great escape. I can see a world where things are better for LGBT individuals.
When I was in high school, I could sit down and write for hours, poring page after page out of fiction but now, ten years later, I am finding it harder and harder to write. I am hoping that NanoWriMo will help me to get my muse back to what it used to be and get me writing again.
UPDATE: NanoWriMo 2015 in 40 days (from this writing) Not sure how long the bio can be but I am very excited about this years coming up NanoWriMo. For past Nano’s, I have done one story for 50,000+ words. Now, I always thought that it was rebellious to write a collection of short stories. This year, I checked the forums and found out that there’s not really a specific rule about that. It just seems that if they are a collection of inter-related short stories, that is perfectly fine for Nano. You can read the explanations of “Am I a Rebel” at http://nanowrimo.org/forums/nano-rebels/threads/171670.
So, its also come with that knowledge, that I have a want to maybe, eventually get published. I have always, in the past, thought of myself as just a hobby writer and nothing more. Just in it for fun and nothing else. That’s not to say that my thoughts of getting published are just because of the money because they’re not. Far from it but it would be nice to see my book sitting on a shelf in a bookstore or online at Amazon.
But I always found that for Nano, when having to write one novel at 50,000 words, I had a hard time with it. I did struggle with it. But this year, as I am writing a collection of short stories, it is very exciting to think that maybe I could have a short story collection published one day.
Later For Now and Happy Writing
